After class last week I started to think more about our society’s values. I tried to find any instance to prove the fact that we all seek power masked by lust was wrong..but I failed. In an attempt to find any type of media to disprove the above statement, I found this Dolce and Gabbana ad. Upon a first glance it looks like any sexual, high fashion ad. But due to last week’s discussion, it made me examine the ad a little closer. After searching for some sort of deeper meaning, I came to the conclusion that the ad represents women in today’s society. Women have been repressed by men (the woman being held down by the man) and women can often feel over powered by men in the corporate world (hence the woman being surrounded by men..being forced to fight for herself). By her thrusting her hips up it symbolizes that she is trying to break free of the restraints that men hold on her. She too desires power.
